چکیده

As a non-invasive neuromodulation technology, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) shows great potential in the treatment of mental diseases. Using TMS to stimulate deep brain targets has significant scientific research value for exploration causes psychiatric However, focalized induced electrical field (E-field) generated by traditional coils or coil arrays is largely restricted superficial cortical targets. To achieve brain, novel spatially symmetric array based on curved θ-type (the θ-SSA) proposed this paper. Four are symmetrical YZ and XZ planes. Each placed tangent human scalp bent away from head reduce non-longitudinal component accumulation E-field enhance focalization. The finite-element method used obtain 3D spatial distributions intracranial array. Results show that θ-SSA can form an obvious focusing area 11 cm below scalp. Under identical current excitation, increase longitudinal attenuation ratio 77% compared coil. In addition, when generating same area, depth 1.67 times deeper than Meanwhile, dynamically steer stimulated coordinates target point be flexibly continuously adjusted changing parameters applied An anatomically realistic model with gray matter employed paper verify our method.

Moral Enhancement Using Non-invasive Brain Stimulation

Biomedical enhancement refers to the use of biomedical interventions to improve capacities beyond normal, rather than to treat deficiencies due to diseases. Enhancement can target physical or cognitive capacities, but also complex human behaviors such as morality. However, the complexity of normal moral behavior makes it unlikely that morality is a single capacity that can be deficient or enhan...

O10: Deep Brain Stimulation and Psychiatry

The use of deep brain stimulation in psychiatric disorders has received great interest owing to the small risk of the operation, the reversible nature of the technique, and the possibility of optimizing treatment postoperatively. Currently deep brain stimulation in psychiatry is investigated for obsessive-compulsive disorder, Gilles de la Tourette’s syndrome and major depression. This presentat...

The neuroethics of non-invasive brain stimulation

Transcranial direct current stimulation (TDCS) is a brain stimulation tool that is portable, painless, inexpensive, apparently safe, and with potential long-term efficacy. Recent results obtained from TDCS experiments offer exciting possibilities for the enhancement and treatment of normal or impaired abilities, respectively. We discuss new neuroethical problems that have emerged from the usage...
